The Rec Centre

As virtual training became the norm, things looked a little different for the Rec Centre towards the end of the year.

As we adapt to life with covid, the Rec Centre, for the first time, offered both in person and virtual classes year-round, so those who were not on campus never had to miss out on a quality workout. Over 20,000 students, staff and community members attended the Rec Centre’s live group fitness classes this year, with over 7,000 of these being online.

The Rec Centre not only went virtual all year for the first time, but they added a few new programmes to their offerings as well. They introduced:
• Coach by colour – personalised group spin class with integrated technology
• Strength Camp – a 4-week programme that focuses on strength and muscle building.
• Girl Squad – a community that empowers and educates all women within the fitness environment. These classes give women the opportunity to learn how to use gym equipment, ask questions, gain support, knowledge, and guidance on all things to do with fitness, health and wellbeing.
• Actively Well – an initiative that supports health and wellbeing on and off-campus by creating customisable wellbeing and fitness opportunities for groups of staff and students.
